One of the big issues in that period of de-colonisation is immigration (and,
consequently, what constitutes "Britishness.") The Ireland question is also
important, as this was a crucial period in the devepment of the Irish republic.
Another interesting (although maybe not so important for your purposes) issue
is the decline of the labor party after their impressive victory in 1945. They
were in and out of power from 1945-1979, but since 1979 have been soundly
defeated every time. And then, of course, is Britain's role in the EC, and the
response in Britain to the Maastricht treaty. There are, of course, other
topics that should be covered, and hopefully others on the list will respond.
