New York University. The Institute for Law and Society
invites applications for a tenure-track position at the
Assistant or Associate level in the Faculty of Arts and
Sciences. The Institute will offer a Ph.D. in Law and Society,
a joint J.D./Ph.D. and J.D./M.A. graduate degree in addition
to its ongoing colloquium series, conferences, research
projects, and scholars-in-residence program. Preferred
disciplines are anthropology, political science, and
sociology. Appointments will be joint with another social
science department. Candidates should demonstrate a
research background in sociolegal studies along with an
exceptional scholarship and publication record, a
multidisciplinary and multicultural vision, and a capacity to
teach graduate level law and social science. Candidates

7) Position: International Relations

The Department of Political Science invites applications for ONE
OR TWO tenure track positions in International Politics to begin
Fall 1996. RANK IS OPEN. We seek applicants with superior
promise at the junior level, or established scholars with a
strong record of achievement, who combine excellence in
scholarship and teaching with strong methodological skills.

The position is open as to specialization, although we prefer
candidates working in major areas of international politics, such
as international relations theory, political economy, and
international security and organization.

8) Position: HISTORY OF RELIGION

of Religion with a specialization in Christian Origins at the assistant or

institutional development in Eastern and Central Europe OR comparative
studies of women in politics. Teaching responsibilities are two courses

17) Position: Dir. of the Medieval Institute
Institution: U of Notre Dame
Location: Indiana

The University of Notre Dame announces a search for the
position of Director of the Medieval Institute, to succeed
John Van Engen who will retire as director, after ten years of
service, in August 1996. The Institute's director must be an
accomplished scholar (ordinarily a full professor) in a field
related to Medieval Studies, and will become a tenured member
of an appropriate department in the University. Beyond
continued work as teacher and scholar, the director, as
administrator, will oversee and coordinate University programs
in Medieval Studies. The director's responsibilities include
the graduate and undergraduate programs in Medieval Studies;
conferences, lectures, and seminars sponsored by the
Institute; the photographic and microfilm archives of the
Bibliotheca Ambrosiana; and a publication series.

18) Position: Provost
Institution: University of Southern Colorado
Location: Pueblo, Colorado

The University of Southern Colorado, a public regional university of
distinction, invites applications and nominations for the position of
provost. The provost is the chief academic and operating officer of the
institution.

Specific areas of responsibility: The provost reports to the president and is
responsible for all academic programs and student affairs. Areas and offices
reporting to the provost include all academic units, student life and
development, continuing education, library, admissions and enrollment
services, KTSC-TV, and the Pueblo School for the Arts and Sciences (a K-12
Charter School). The provost is responsible for all personnel, budgeting,
and administrative concerns in these critical areas.

Qualifications: Candidates must have an earned doctorate, significant
academic experience (including teaching and scholarly activity), a strong
commitment to affirmative action and diversity on campus, the ability to
develop and supervise a broad range of academic and student functions, a
strong commitment to the values of shared governance, and a credible record
of past accomplishments in higher education, preferably at the academic dean
level or above.

Starting date: January 1, 1996 or as soon as possible thereafter.
