The informative exchange about Scots history publishers prompts me to
ask about British presses that publish extensively in English history
(other than the obvious ones such as Oxford UP, Cambridge UP). In
North America academic presses complain that there is little market
for European history except limited topics such as World War II. As
a result it is increasingly difficult on this side of the Atlantic to
publish British and other European historical monographs. I
occasionally get advertisements from new British presses that feature
historical scholarship but lack systematic knowledge of them.
