Several Scottish historians feel that Edinburgh UP is no longer the most
prominent publisher of Scottish History and that other publishers have
more extensive Scottish lists. Among these are Scottish Cultural Press
(which also publishes out-of-print works from recently-defunct presses),
Mainstream, John Donald, and the newly-established Tuckwell Press
(established by one of the founders of John Donald). Aberdeen University
Press has just reconstituted itself, after being forced to close because
of the collapse of the Robert Maxwell empire. Mercat Press (part of
James Thin's Bookshop, I think) also issues reprints. Longman, Macmillan
and Cambridge UP have also recently published more Scottish material, as
has Scolar Press.
