The post is for a candidate to teach British and European
Cultural History.

The Western Reserve Historical Society (WRHS), Cleveland, Ohio.
A major focus of the WRHS Library is its manuscript collections
with current emphasis on regional African-American, ethnic,
lesbian/gay, Jewish, labor, local government, and urban archives.
The Curator of Manuscripts heads one of the Library's four=20
divisions and is responsible for collection maintenance and
expansion, supervision of associate and assistant curators and=20
archivists, and budget preparation and implementation. The curator
maintains associations with archival and historical organizations,=20
prepares special project grant requests, and lectures in both=20
academic and non-academic settings. The qualified applicant will
have at least five (5) years of experience in an archival setting=20
with administrative and supervisory responsibilities, strong communi-
cation and organizational skills, demonstrated ability to handle=20

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsible for the organization, maintenance and
preservation of valuable public and private records on historic
resources in Virginia, including documents, map collections,
slide and photographic records, and research library.
Integrates new information into the collections and organizes
them in a systematic manner so they are easily available.
Provides reference services to customers and staff, assisting
them in the use of the resources. Manages security and proper
maintenance of DHR's archival materials. Provides technical
assistance in the implementation of the inventory records into
the Integrated Preservation Software System and the Geographic
Information System. conducts archival research, provides
training to users and supervises archives staff.

QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of library organization and procedures; archival
theory and practice; historic preservation and related
disciplines. Working knowledge of automated data systems used
in historic preservation and archives. Ability to analyze and
classify historical documents and to perform related research;
organize and maintain DHR's archaeologicl and historic
architectural archives; communicate effectively both orally and
in writing; and, supervise work of others. Advanced degree in
library science, architectural history, history, anthropology
or related field, or equivalent experience preferred.
Progressive experience in archival management desired.
