We have some correspondence which might be relevant. A family
of wool manufacturers called Wilson moved from Alva in Scotland
to London, where the father (James Wilson) carried out the
external side of the business. He had four children, one of
whom worked for a while with Siemens in Germany, 1906-1908. The
correspondence between the son and his parents and siblings
gives an interesting insight into a particularly "British"
outlook on life - these after all were Scots living in England.
They sound very much like a typical English middle class family,
however - without the Scottish accent it's hard to distinguish
their ethnicity, apart from the occasional use of the word
"wee"!
