While all the titles I have seen to date would be excellent choices, I am
surprised that no one has yet mentioned Walter Greenwood's _Love on the
Dole_. You can close your eyes and see Lowry's paintings or Coronation
Street as it then was. I have found it a very popular book with
students, once they have caught on to the dialect.
