Organisation: Historical Geography Research Group, Annual Conference
Venue: University of Strathclyde
Date: Jan 1996
It is anticipated that the sessions will include: geographers and the military;
geopolitical histories of war and peace; representation of war, landscapes and
places of memorialisation; anti-war movements; the making and unmaking of
militarised landscapes. The home front will be considered as well as the
battle front. The session will also endeavour to understand how war and peace
raise issues of class, gender, politics, landscape and memory which embed them
within conflicts and allegiances beyond those which scar the battlefield.
Abstracts: 200 words by 31 March 1995
