I am editing a list of suggestions for advanced professional
beginners, which I will send to Ann and to the list. It is not the same
kind of needs as for undergraduate beginners, anyway.
My query now: I will spend a month or so in Ireland and the British
Isles in July-August this summer, certainly starting from Ireland, followed
by the Isle of Man (for a classical motorcyclist, it's almost a
pilgrimage), then Scotland (Highlands and Islands) and then England before
crossing down to France again.
I am wondering if there are any archeological searches concerning
the early modern period (XVIIth century especially) going on this summer,
because I would very much like to be initiated to that particular form of
field research. I have no experience in archeology whatever, but I can
pretend to some knowledge of the early modern period in Britain (not much
concerning Ireland, but I'm ready to take the right remedy to cure that).
I'll be in the area approximately between July 10 or 12 and August
10th-ish, most probably in the order of circulation above mentioned. I can
change my plans according to the field searches that some of you could
suggest. I am in good health, sturdy, I can use a shovel if I'm told what
exactly to do with it, and I am ready to learn all the uses of the
teaspoon, which my archeologist friends always mention as their most
essential excavation instrument...
I think other people are likely to be interested, so reply to the
list, and you may reply to me personally as well.

Yours,

Luc
