I have recently re-read C.R. Boxer, `The commercial letter-book and
testament of a Luso-Brazilian Merchant, 1646-1565` in *Boletim de
Estudios Latino-Americana e del Caribe*, vol. 18 (1975) pp. 49-56.
This is a short summary of a manuscript letter-book that Boxer found
in the Lilly Library of Indiana University. According to Boxer, this
codex was compiled by Joao Serrao the Oliveira, who in the mid-1600s
had from his base in Lisbon quite a lot of commercial dealings with
Brazil and Angola, in particular.

In this article, Boxer just provides a description of the information
contained in the codex and adds that he hopes a competent economic
historian (???!!!) will be able to analyze it in depth. My questions
are as follows: 1) has anyone published anything in depth from this
source; 2) would anyone have a microfilm or paper copy of this codex;
and, 3) how could a microfilm copy be obtained directly from the Lilly
Library?
