I am pleased to hear to prospects are looking good for *Sources of
the African Past* being available in an updated edition. The approach
of case studies I have found to be valuable in teaching African
History. However, when I teach my History of Southern Africa course
I am unlikely to ask students to buy a book in which they would read
only 40% of the material for the course (2 of 5 cases--the Zulu State
& Moshweshwe--concern southern Africa).

What would be the prospects, and interest, in both a book of the five
cases--as well as pamphlet versions with only one case in each--being
made available. Even if the two southern African cases would cost
students two-thirds or three-quarters of the price of the whole book,
I believe they would respond better than having them buy the entire
text and using less than half of it.

I would encourage our instructional media center to buy the slide set
in either case; it would be worth it even if using just two cases at
a time.
