I wish to extend a very belated thank-you to those who responded to
my request for suggestions for a text for a pre-colonial African
survey. Thanks to Jim Newman, Eugenia Herbert, Kevin Dunn, Tom Spear,
Carolyn Brown, and Richard Lobban. If I've left anybody out, it was
inadvertant.
I've decided to try Shillington (although I'm going to request an
exam copy of Jim Newman's book). To supplement the text, I'm using
Davidson, THE AFRICAN SLAVE TRADE and the St. Bedford edition of
Equiano's narrative.
I also plan to set up a web page with the syllabus, course
outline and resources, so if anyone has ideas, suggestions, to
share, I would be most interested. Thanks.
