For ethnopolitics in South Africa see my bibliography--*The ANC and
Black Workers in South Africa, 1912-1992: an annotated bibliography*
(London: H. Zell, 1993)--this includes a section on video resources.

For historical background on Rwanda see especially Catherine
Newbury, *The Cohesion of Oppression, clientship and ethnicity in
Rwanda, 1860-1960* (Columbia UP 1988). Also see the vast bibliography
by Marcel d'Hertefelt, *Societe, culture et histoire du Rwanda*
(Tervuren, 1987, 1,849 pp.).

For starters you could look at works by Mare, Lodge, Schire, Etherington,
Adam, Oden, Lemon, Ottaway etc. for the more recent years in SA. The
annual Africa Bibliography from Edinburgh UP should fill in the gaps.
