Paul Nugent's query on use of computers in teaching on slavery, in
which he mentioned my simulation of the demographic impact of slave
trade, prompts me to announce that an improved version of the
simulation is almost ready for release on the World Wide Web.
With my colleagues Bryant York and Rafi David at Northeastern,
I have made up a web home page and have developed an attractive
graphical presentation enabling users to see the demographic results
of various input data on the size and composition of enslaved
populations and on rates of mortality, as these affect populations
in areas where captives departed and arrived. We'll make an
announcement to colleagues on H-AFRICA when it becomes available
for general use.

In addition, a data base on Atlantic slave voyages has been
established at the W.E.B. DuBois center at Harvard University, under
the leadership of David Eltis. The data are coded according to a
consistent format, though I think some additional work would have to
be done to make the information easily usable by students.
