It may be worthwile to reread Archie Mafeje's "Ideology of
Tribalism" in *Journal of Modern African Studies*, V. 9, no.2, 1971,
as a beginning of the debate. Although it's become more complex it's
worthwhile looking at it again, since there's a resurgence of
interest in the concept.
