Yes, I know what you mean about the mouldy smell, although I think
it depends on whether its fresh mitumba or not (sounds like a
vegetable market). My real question, though, is whether it is used
in other contexts.
I heard one Kenyan man, the last time I was there, refer to a
married woman as mitumba. Does this mean nothing more than that she
is married? Is it sexist slang? Does it refer to anything at all
that is used? If so, used in what sense -- worn out? experienced?
old but valued? recycled?
