The Program of African Studies (PAS) of the Departamento de Historia,
Universidade de Brasilia (UnB), brings together research projects
which deal with the African continent and the relations of Brazil
with Africa. It is a program open to interdisciplinarity and its time
perspective is one of long duration. Through its activities, the PAS
seeks to develop the following objectives:

a) Train researchers in African studies and in the relations of
Brazil with Africa through the instruction of undergraduate and
graduate students.

b) Promote academic discussions and extension activities to
provide and strengthen knowledge relative to the African
continent and the relations of Brasil with Africa.

c) Amplify the scientific communication network with more
specialists in Brazil, Africa, and other parts of the world
where a critical mass exists in this area of study.

d) Identify, preserve and divulge the body of primary
documentation and scientific works on this area of study
available in the Federal District of Brazil.

It is expected to establish a course of specialization covering the
four areas of concentration of the PAS (pre-colonial Africa,
colonial Africa, contemporary Africa, and Brazilian-African
relations). This course will be aimed primarily at teachers in the
secondary schools of the Federal District and will be offered as
part of the Graduate Program of the Departamento de Historia, UnB.
