I just got back from West Africa to find lots of messages about
Goree. It seems that this was really a sensitive/stimulating issue. I
much appreciate your comments. Cetainly Goree was far from alone and
there are still many standing monuments to the multi-faceted trade.
I was in Cape Verde actually, and lots of slaves passed through
there, but that is not really the point in this discussion. It is clear
that much needs to be aired on this unfunished business and that numbers
are needed, but there is much more to this story.
