It's been several years since I was in Lome, but if it's still around
and I don't have any reason to believe it isn't, the best place to
stay is the Hotel du Golfe in the heart of Lome. I don't have the
exact address, but it isn't hard to find. It's only a few blocks
from the ocean and convenient to the center of town. It's rates were
also reasonable as I remember; of course with the devaluation of the
CFA franc, I expect the dollar will stretch farther these days.
If you check any good bookstore, you should be able to turn up a good
guide to West Africa which should have current info on Togo. I
remeber there was another place right on the ocean, the Hotel de la
Plage, which was cheaper than the Golfe, but the rooms were not
great. However, I do remember some great mornings having le petit
dejeuner with a refreshing ocean breeze and the scent of brine. The
drawback is that in Oct. and Nov. you're approaching the dry season
in Togo and it will be starting to get hotter during the day.
Hope this helps.
