I just got a flyer for the *Oxford History of the World*, by J.M.
Roberts, and it is clear from the table of contents that Africa (and
Latin America) are not considered important or historical parts of
the world by the author or publisher until the coming of Europeans.
This is shocking in 1995. As an instructor of African and world
history courses, it is already difficult enough to find good world
history texts which deal effectively with Africa. The Oxford work
looks like a step even further back - a Trojan horse for Western
Civilization.
