FROM HGM: I am teaching 20th century Africa and am using this year, Davidon,
Modern Africa; Vansina, Living with Africa; Appiah, In My Father's House;
Ayittey, Africa Betrayed; and Ahma Tuna, The Case of the Socialist Witch
Doctor. It seems to work well, although Appiah requires close reading, and the
students do complain about his opacity.
