How about positions in Francophone Literature? I teach now a course
in this area and would like to know what the extent of this field
in the Northeast.

Let me add a little clarification: in my second career as a French
college professor at John Jay College of Criminal Justice (albeit an
adjunct) and an almost-completed Ph.D in Bilingual Education from
NYU, I found myself staring at a very sterile and unchallenging
environment of teaching French 101 & 102. Looking at the curriculum,
I found Puerto Rican studies, some African studies, but nothing for
Haitian kids and others from the French milieu.

So,what better than an ex-advertising agency man-turned college
professor, French but born in Egypt and (Jewish too) to teach a
Francophone Literature course (bilingually). The course is a success
as I have 15 students!

Unfortunately for John Jay, I'm leaving in September for France
where I will working on a French Ph.D. as well as a book on
"Teaching Francophone Literature" at the college level. Upon my
return (probably by June 1996), I will be looking to teach Education
and this course too!
