The National Endowment for the Humanities recently offered CUNYs American Social History Project/Center for Media & Learning (ASHP/CML) funds to continue our professional development program to help high school and college faculty incorporate new media technology into their classroom instruction. Entitled The New Media Classroom: Building a National Conversation on Narrative, Inquiry, and Technology in the U.S. History Survey, the year-long program will kick off with a one-week summer residency institute in New York City in late July 1997, and builds on a successful program, last year' s The New Media Classroom: Narrative, Inquiry, and Technology in the U.S. History Survey.
The New Media Classroom will provide high school and college faculty the opportunity to come together under the aegis of ASHP/CML and Georgetown Universitys American Studies Crossroads Project to explore the expanding spectrum of new history (or interdisciplinary humanities) teaching resources available on CD-ROM and the World Wide Web. In addition to surveying existing resources, seminar participants will also develop and test strategies for using these resources with their own students, and train to become teaching with technology leaders to expand the impact of the program at their home institutions.
