Job Description:
The Religion Department at Wittenberg University seeks applicants for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor position to begin August, 2021. Wittenberg is committed to attracting and retaining highly qualified individuals who collectively reflect the diversity of our student body and society at-large. The successful candidate will teach courses in World Religions. Area of specialization is open, with a preference for candidates who can teach traditions historically associated with Asian cultures.
Teaching load is six courses per year (3/3). Ability to teach courses that contribute to one or more of Wittenberg's interdisciplinary offerings in International Studies, East Asian Studies, Health Science, Justice, Law, & Public Policy, Philosophy, Political Science, Cinema Studies, or Women's Studies is desired.
The Department of Religion emphasizes a commitment to liberal arts teaching and interdisciplinary approaches to teaching and research. The department also values original, innovative research, interaction with students inside and outside of the classroom, engagement with the local community, and service to the university. We view our work as a department as one that is deeply committed to the study of religion as a public practice.
Requirements:
A Ph.D. in Religion/Religious Studies (or related field) preferred, ABD (with clear plan for completion) considered. College level teaching experience preferred.
