The Environmental Studies program at Tulane University invites applications for a two-year Visiting Assistant Professor position beginning fall 2020. Teaching responsibilities will include environmental exposition, writing, and communication. We aim to hire faculty with the ability to instruct core environmental studies courses, such as: Introduction to Environmental Studies, Approaches to Environmental Studies, and Senior Seminar in Environmental Studies. The teaching load is a 3-3; all courses are at the undergraduate level. The successful candidate will instruct three environmental expository writing courses per year (capped at 15 students each) and three additional courses per year for the environmental studies program.
The candidate is expected to have a PhD in environmental studies or a closely related social science discipline with explicit specialization in the environment and demonstrated effectiveness in undergraduate instruction. Preference given to candidates with demonstrated experience teaching writing and environmental topics. The successful candidate should be familiar with pedagogical principles of effective composition instruction: the teaching of writing as a process, the use of draft workshops, and the importance of revision.
