Description
The Department of History at the University of California, Berkeley invites applications for a pool of qualified temporary instructors to teach courses primarily in United States history, should an opening arise. Screening of applicants is ongoing and will continue as needed. The number of positions varies from semester to semester, depending on the needs of the department. Positions may range from 16% to 100% time, which would translate to 1 to 6 courses over a two semester academic year.
The Department of History at the University of California, Berkeley, is generating an applicant pool of qualified instructors to teach courses in United States history, pending openings.
Basic qualifications (at time of application): The minimum qualifications required to be an applicant are the completion of all PhD or equivalent international degree requirements except the dissertation.
Additional qualifications (by start date): A PhD or equivalent international degree is required by the start date. Demonstrated teaching experience is required by the start date.
Preferred qualifications: A PhD or equivalent international degree in United States history, or related field. Demonstrated teaching excellence in the appropriate fields with undergraduates and, where appropriate, graduate students.
Salary range: $56,381 - $62,232, based on a two semester, 100% time appointment. Starting salary will be commensurate with past college-level teaching experience.
In addition to teaching responsibilities, general duties may include holding regular office hours, calculating grades, advising students, preparing course materials, managing GSIs, and attending appropriate meetings/orientations, etc.
UC Lecturers are academic appointees in an organized bargaining unit and are exclusively represented by American Federation of Teachers - Unit 18.
