General Purpose:
Reporting to the Associate Director for Collections, Research, and Education, this position will lead a comprehensive effort which will include:
- Conduct a comparative survey and analysis of peer institution fellowship programs, including funding levels, deadline cycles, fellowship programming, and administrative structure. Based on this research, submit a proposal that makes recommendations for a programmatic restructuring of the BRBL fellowship program.
- Work closely with stakeholders in BRBL, across Yale, and at partner institutions to develop detailed project plans for the implementation of the new fellowship program, including develop BRBL fellowship program budget of approximately $500,000; annual timelines and reporting; and communication plan in order to ensure successful implementation.
- Conduct a functional assessment of the fellowship online application portal, identify and test software options, and implement new system as appropriate.
- Write new text for website and publicity materials. Develop communication plans to re-launch the fellowship program and continually expand awareness.
- Develop organizing structure and identify candidates for an interdisciplinary fellowship peer review board.
- Establish guidelines and administrative and financial office procedures for the fellowship program.
- Develop assessment tools and metrics to measure impact of fellowship program, obtain qualitative feedback from fellows, and track research outcomes from fellows.
- Lead the first year of implementation of the new fellowship program and provide a summary report with recommendations for next steps.
Position will remain open until filled but priority consideration will be given to applications received prior to January 15, 2020.
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree and at least four years of related work experience.
Qualifications:
- Strong project management skills, especially the ability to deliver projects on-time. Ability to multitask and prioritize. Ability to identify, analyze, and solve problems and meet the needs of different groups. Ability to connect to a vision and carry out a concrete plan of action.
- Excellent oral, written communication, and interpersonal communication skills, including a track record of fostering collaboration and lasting partnerships and cooperation through teamwork.
- Deep knowledge of current academic research trends in the humanities, particularly with archival research. Demonstrated experience with research fellowship programs in the U.S. and abroad. Broad understanding of the special collections and rare books field.
- Experience in building budgets, establishing administrative and financial office procedures, and developing assessment tools and metrics.
- Demonstrated knowledge of current application software options and ability to implement a new application system.
- Preferred Education and Experience: Advanced degree in the humanities preferred. Preference also provided to candidates who have personally received research fellowships or research grants and/or led program assessments projects in previous positions.
