This endowed chair, named in memory of Dr. Vera King Farris’ mother in 1990 (Dr. Vera King Farris established Stockton’s Holocaust and Genocide Studies Program and the Holocaust Resource Center), brings to Stockton University, on an annual basis, a different scholar of international reputation to teach and conduct research about the Holocaust and other genocides, as well as interact with Stockton students, faculty, and the community.
Stockton University invites applications for the position of the Ida E. King Distinguished Visiting Scholar of Holocaust Studies, for the academic years 2020-2021, 2021-2022, and 2022-2023. Applications for a full academic year are preferred, but applications for one semester will be considered. The position is open to senior scholars at the rank of Associate Professor or above, or equivalent senior rank in museums or other relevant institutions. Scholars from any discipline whose research and teaching focus on any aspect of Holocaust and Genocide Studies are invited to apply.
Stockton’s interdisciplinary Holocaust and Genocide Studies programs include the Master of Arts (MAHG), an undergraduate minor, and a high school dual credit program. The minor offers more than 30 courses each academic year, more than at any other institution of higher education in the world. The high school dual credit program provides advanced high school students at nearly 30 schools in the region with opportunities to earn college-level credit. The MAHG program, founded in 1998, was the first program of its kind in the country. The MAHG curriculum provides outstanding preparation for teachers, human rights professionals, museum curators, and others. With three core faculty members, a number of affiliated faculty members, and a distinguished senior visiting scholar every year, the MAHG program provides students with rich perspectives on core problems and issues of genocide and mass violence in the past and in the present.

The faculty of Stockton’s programs in Holocaust and Genocide Studies view diversity among students, faculty, staff, and in the kind of events they organize as particularly important in research and teaching in the field, and in the struggle against genocide and mass violence in the world today.
Responsibilities:
The Ida E. King Distinguished Visiting Scholar of Holocaust Studies is required to:
- Teach one graduate seminar and one undergraduate course each semester
- Mentor graduate students
- Deliver at least one public lecture
- Participate regularly in program events
- Engage with the community around Stockton University, primarily in meetings and activities of the Sara & Sam Schoffer Holocaust
- Resource Center at Stockton
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Dean of the School of General Studies and the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs

Required Qualifications:
- Senior scholars at the rank of Associate Professor or above
