History of 20th Century U.S. Race and Politics
The School of Historical, Philosophical, and Religious Studies at Arizona State University seeks applicants for a full-time, tenure-track, Assistant Professor of History position in U.S. Race and Politics in the 20th Century. We believe race remains foundational to any conversation about American politics. As ASU and the wider community debate the future, knowledge of the nation’s history as a polity, a continually contested racial regime, and a community – or as a multiplicity of each – is essential. We seek a scholar who will be able to work in a multi-disciplinary environment, engaging a diverse student audience across multiple learning platforms to provide exemplary teaching, research and community engagement on this important topic.
A colleague in this field will contribute to history’s core undergraduate and graduate curricula and will also have opportunities in our thriving ASU Online, History Masters Online and WW II Studies Online. The colleague will also be an excellent candidate for collaboration with the School of Social Transformation, Transborder Studies, Center for Latina/o and American Politics Research, and the Center for the Study of Race and Democracy; and will be a valued voice in the policy debates that grow more urgent every day.
Required Qualifications:
• Ph.D. in History or American Studies by time of appointment
• Evidence of research excellence in the field of 20th Century Race and Politics
• Demonstrated commitment to high quality teaching to a diverse student body at all levels including undergraduate and graduate
• Demonstrated commitment to engaging communities, broadly defined, beyond the boundaries of ASU
Desired Qualifications:
• Ability to teach Race and Ethnicity courses and support the History faculty’s commitment to offering courses that reach a diverse student audience
• Demonstrated mentoring skills for a diverse population
