Assistant Professor, Pre-Modern Afro-Eurasian History- Tenure Track
Position: The history department at Northern Michigan University invites applicants for a tenure-
earning Assistant Professor position in the field of pre-modern Afro-Eurasian history. This position
is expected to begin in August 2020 and is campus based.
Duties and Responsibilities: This position is responsible for teaching World History, Historical
Methods and courses relevant to Pre- Modern Afro Eurasian history. Continued professional
development and university service are expected of all NMU faculty members.
Minimum Qualifications: Demonstrated teaching excellence at the college level, including use of
innovative pedagogy; Ability to relate course material to the contemporary world; Ability to teach
courses in World History surveys and Historical Methods for undergraduates; Ability to convey
oral and written information in understandable ways and communicating effectively verbally and
in writing; Continued professional development and service to the university are expected of all
NMU faculty; Completion of the relevant PhD. Preferred areas of teaching ability include
Environmental, Science and Material Culture, the Middle East.
