POSITION: The department of history invites applications for a probationary tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor. The department seeks candidates with expertise in U.S. History to 1877 who are committed to teaching excellence and to maintaining an ative research program. This position carries an initial two-year probationary appointment beginning with the 2020/2021 academic year, commencing August 24, 2020.
DUTIES: The successful candidate will teach courses in the Department of History as assigned, based on program needs and in accordance with specialization, including the U.S. to 1877 introductory survey course. They will also teach the upper-division course, History of the American Family, often delivered online. They will participate in research and scholarly activities, engage in service to the department, University, and community, and contribute to department, college and university committee work.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Earned doctorate in History or related field from a regionally accredited Higher Education institution is required. ABD applicants may be considered but must complete the terminal degree by March 1, 2021.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: We conceptualize the position chronologically as covering from pre-colonization through Reconstruction. Preference will be given to applicants who can enhance department offerings (including for the graduate program) through expertise in the histories of gender and/or sexuality. We also prefer a candidate who will contribute to UWEC's commitment to diversity, equity and inclusiveness, through research, teaching and/or service work. Evidence of successful university teaching will be considered an asset. Other thematic areas of interest for the department include but are not limited to: race and ethnicity, health and medicine, and digital methodologies.
