As of 01 February 2020, or soon thereafter, a position as associate professor will become available at the Department for the Study of Culture (IKV), Faculty of Humanities, University of Southern Denmark in Odense.
The level of professional competence for associate professors shall be on a level corresponding to what can be achieved on the basis of employment as assistant professor, but may also be achievable by other means. Applicants must be able to document research competence in core areas related to media science such as media theory, media history, media culture and media analysis.
More specifically, the department is interested in applicants with research weight in one or more of the following areas:
- Digital and interactive media
- Digital media applications
- Media history
- Quantitative methods
- Production processes in the media industry
- Manuscript Development
- Interaction Design
- Experience Technology
The associate professor will be associated with the media science programmes and shall therefore be central to the continued development of the academic environment at Media Studies. The associate professor will be expected to teach within a broad spectrum of the faculty's media science programmes and disciplines.
Emphasis is placed on the associate professor’s active participation in interdisciplinary projects both within and outside of the department, and applicants are asked to provide an explanation of how they can contribute to the department's research profile.
The preferred applicant is expected to participate in applications for external funding and be involved in assessment committees, administrative councils and boards, as well as collaborate with external parties.

The successful applicant will be employed in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations), Cirkulære om overenskomst for Akademikere i staten 2019 (the document only exists in Danish).
If the successful applicant has not documented teaching experience corresponding to assistant professor level, the applicant will be employed on trial for the first 18 months.

- A maximum of 6 of the most relevant publications. Please attach one pdf-file for each publication. For any publication with a co-author, a co-author statement must be submitted as part of the pdf-file
Applicants for an associate professorship at the Faculty of Humanities are requested to submit a teaching portfolio with the application as documentation for teaching experience as well as supervision qualifications. Please read more here.
Application and all appendices must be in Danish, English or one of the Scandinavian languages. Please always include a copy of original diploma/certificates. We only accept files in pdf-format no more than 10 MB per file. In case you have more than one file per field you need to combine the pdf-files into a single file, as each field handles only one file. We do not accept zip-files, jpg or other image files. All pdf-files must be unlocked and allow binding and may not be password protected.
Applications will be assessed by an assessment committee and the applicant will receive the part of the evaluation that concerns him/her. The assessment report will subsequently be forwarded to the Head of Department who will assemble an appointments committee. An interview may form part of the overall assessment of the applicants’ qualifications. The committee may request additional information, and if so, it is the responsibility of the applicant to provide the necessary material.
If the application does not meet the requirements mentioned above, the Faculty of Humanities may reject your application without further notice. Applications received after the deadline will neither be considered nor evaluated.
Shortlisting and tests may be used in the assessment process. Please note that only a shortlisted applicant will receive an assessment.
