Assistant or Associate Professor, African History, Tenure Track
The Department of History at Muhlenberg College invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor in the History of Africa to begin August 2020. We are open to candidates specializing in any time period and geographic focus. Subspecialties may include, but are not limited to: environmental history and sustainability studies, medicine and global health, women’s and gender studies, migration, and the trans-Atlantic slave trade. This position supports the global engagement commitment of the History Department and offers the opportunity to contribute to the development and growth of the Africana Studies Program. The ability to teach introductory and advanced undergraduate courses in history, an Introduction to Africana Studies, and First Year Seminars is essential. Teaching responsibilities include three courses per semester.
We seek applicants who are excellent and innovative teachers with both a strong commitment to teaching in a Liberal Arts environment and an active research program. Ideal candidates will have a Ph.D. in hand by time of appointment. We are especially interested in candidates who are committed to teaching and mentoring students from all backgrounds and display the potential for an active scholarly agenda.

Candidates should also submit a separate statement addressing the applicant’s contributions to equity, diversity, and inclusion in their teaching and to the larger community.
