The Department of History at the University of California, Riverside, seeks to develop
a pool of highly qualified Lecturers to fill possible part-time openings during the
2019-2020 academic year. Candidates prepared to teach in the following areas of specialization
are invited to submit applications:
• US History: courses on witches in colonial US, history of California, US consumer culture, the
1960s, and American musical cultures
• Asian-American History, including the Vietnam War
All qualified candidates for these courses will also be considered for available US survey courses
• Ancient Mediterranean history, qualified to teach courses on Rome
• Modern Latin American History, survey and topical courses
• Early Modern European history: courses on Britain and on Spain
All qualified candidates for these courses also be considered for an Early Modern European survey
course
All qualified candidates in all fields will also be considered for teaching 20th-century World
History
All appointments are contingent on budgetary approval, departmental need and enrollment in each
course. Each appointment will begin September 23, 2019 for Fall Quarter courses; January
2, 2020 for Winter Quarter courses; March 25, 2020 for Spring Quarter courses, and continue for
one quarter. The salary is
$6,081.00 per course for a Lecturer position.
Desired qualifications: Ph.D. in History or a relevant field preferred; documented record of
teaching excellence in history in the fields involved. Documented record as an instructor of survey
courses preferred for candidates for survey course appointments.
