The Asian University for Women is a unique liberal arts institution located in the port city of Chittagong, Bangladesh, and includes an international faculty and students from 16 Asian countries. A majority of the students are the first in their family to attend a university. We are dedicated to teaching excellence in a liberal arts setting, with a strong commitment to research and scholarly engagement. Faculty at AUW can expect to teach highly motivated and driven students who will make a lasting impact on their communities. The usual teaching load is six courses per academic year. AUW offers a competitive package of salary commensurate with academic credentials and experience, and benefits including housing for faculty members, their families, and domestic partners.
AUW seeks applications for a full-time faculty position in the humanities to begin in Fall 2019. AUW’s humanities offerings include courses in literature, history, philosophy, language, arts and visual culture. We seek candidates who have demonstrated teaching experience, preferably in an interdisciplinary and liberal arts setting, and who have experience teaching multi-ethnic, multi-cultural student populations. We invite applicants from any field in the humanities, with preference given to candidates with a background in literature, gender studies, global or cultural studies, and history. Preference will be given to candidates who will also be able to contribute to AUW’s liberal arts general education requirement and who can possibly teach courses that could be cross-listed with other disciplines at the university.
The successful candidate will be hired at the Professor/Associate Professor, depending on teaching experience and research accomplishments. Preference will be given to those with a Ph.D. in hand by the start date, although ABDs are also welcome to apply. We also seek candidates who have experience supervising and advising undergraduate students and who can demonstrate a commitment to curriculum and program development.
