The Department of Design and Communication at the University of Southern Denmark, Faculty of Humanities, invites applications for a position as Associate Professor within the field of IT systems development. The position is placed at the Kolding campus of the University and is available from August 1, 2019, or as soon as possible thereafter.
The Department of Design and Communication is a humanistic department which encompasses Design, International Business Communication, Information Science, Tourism, Library Science and Web Communication. Currently, a Center for Computational Thinking is being established at the department.
We welcome applicants with a firm basis in IT and an interdisciplinary orientation, who are prepared to participate in the cross-disciplinary cooperation at the department.
The department offers bachelor and master study programs in humanistic IT and comprises corresponding research activities, particularly within computational thinking, designs for learning with ICT, web communication, web 2.0, web 3.0 and mobile web technologies, knowledge representation and ontologies, data science and agile software development methods.
The selected applicant is expected to strengthen the department’s profile within IT systems development as concerns the study programs as well as the research areas and to participate actively in the new Center for Computational Thinking.
It is a requirement for the position that the applicant should have documented research and teaching qualifications within IT systems development. Experience within areas of computational thinking, computational literacy or computational participation will be an advantage. Business experience from the IT sector is not required but would be highly welcomed.

- substantial scientific and high-level research
- pedagogical skills and teaching experience
The position involves, among other tasks:
- teaching, particularly in subjects within the areas of programming and systems development;
- active participation in the department’s ongoing research activities, including those at the department’s new Center for Computational Thinking;
- contributing to the development of new research perspectives within the area of IT systems development, computational thinking and computational literacy, along with the development of corresponding applications for external funding;
- active participation in the development of the ICT design profile of the department and of the campus
The applicant is expected to have a Ph.D. within the area of IT systems development or a closely related field. In addition, the applicant must document teaching skills such as professional postgraduate teacher training for assistant professors or other teaching experience equivalent to that which can be attained on the basis of an appointment as assistant professor.
International staff is expected to be able to teach in Danish after a two years period.

The successful applicant will be employed in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations), Cirkulære om overenskomst for Akademikere i staten 2015 (the document only exists in Danish).
Appointment to this position may also include teaching obligations in regard to related degree programmes. If the successful applicant has not documented teaching experience corresponding to assistant professor level, the applicant will be employed on trial for the first 18 months. Applicants for an associate professorship at the Faculty of Humanities are requested to submit a teaching portfolio with the application as documentation for teaching experience as well as supervision qualifications. Please read more here.

Applications will be assessed by an assessment committee and the committee will assess whether you are qualified to be an Assistant Professor. The committee may request additional information, and if so, it is the responsibility of the applicant to provide the necessary material.
When the assessment committee has submitted its report, the applicant will receive the part of the evaluation that concerns him/her. The assessment report will subsequently be forwarded to the Head of Department who will assemble an appointments committee. An interview may form part of the overall assessment of the applicants’ qualifications.
If the application does not meet the requirements mentioned above, the Faculty of Humanities may reject your application without further notice. Applications received after the deadline will neither be considered nor evaluated.
Shortlisting and tests may be used in the assessment process.
