Penn State University's Abington College seeks an art historian to join our Division of Arts & Humanities. The position begins Fall 2019, and is full-time (typically four courses per semester). This is a fixed-term, potentially renewable 36-week faculty contract. We welcome applications from art historians who can offer a diverse array of art history courses including survey, modern and contemporary art. Candidates with a background in Asian, African American, African and/or Latin American Art are especially encouraged to apply. Candidates must have completed a Ph.D. in Art History. The successful candidate will teach a variety of undergraduate courses in his or her areas of expertise, including introductory survey courses; advise students; and contribute service to the department, college, and university. Candidates from underrepresented groups within the academy are particularly encouraged to apply. As an institution, we have a mission to create high-impact educational experiences that lead to profound personal transformation and broader social change. This is a place where your teaching and campus service can have a strong impact, and where you will find a collegial atmosphere of scholar-teachers who are genuinely excited to make a difference in the lives of our students. Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to developing and maintaining an innovative, engaging, and student-centered curriculum that is responsive to the needs of diverse students in a major metropolitan area. Abington College offers 19 baccalaureate degrees on our campus, and the first two years of more than 160 Penn State majors that can be completed at other campuses. The campus has the atmosphere and advantages of a small college teaching environment, while also offering the resources of a major research university, including travel funding and other research supports. Applications will be accepted until January 4, 2019. To apply, submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, 1-page teaching statement that specifically addresses how your teaching would be a good fit for our campus, and the names and contact information of three references who will write letters of support when asked. Preliminary interviews will be held via Skype. Employment with the University will require successful completion of background check(s) in accordance with University policies.
