Atlantic World. The History Department of Randolph College invites applications for the position of full-time, tenure-track assistant professor in the history of the Atlantic world. The scope of this position comprises study of the people of the four continents bordering the Atlantic Ocean, especially after 1492 and the beginning of the “Columbian Exchange.” The emphasis on intercontinental relationships does not mean that this would be a position oblivious to the importance of particular places and the integrity of their own histories and cultures. Preference will be given to candidates qualified to teach courses focusing on African, Caribbean, and/or Latin American history. Also, because of the centuries-long attempted Europeanization of the world and the influence Europe has cast across the Atlantic world, any candidate must be able to offer introductory courses on pre-1900 Europe.
Date of employment is July 1, 2019; report date is in mid-August. Candidates must have completed the PhD in history, or expect to do so by September 1, 2019. Teaching experience is highly desirable. Applicants should submit a cover letter, CV, brief statement of teaching philosophy, graduate transcript, and three confidential letters of recommendation to atlantichistory@randolphcollege.edu. Applications are due December 15, 2018.
