The George Washington University Department of History is seeking a professor of African American history in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries to serve as Director of its Africana Studies Program. Applicants from the ranks of advanced Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and Professor are welcome.
The Africana Studies Program at GW promotes an interdisciplinary, comparative course of study. Students in the program are introduced to methodology from core areas of the humanities and social sciences, such as history, sociology, literature and anthropology. Africana Studies offers undergraduate majors and minors and has affiliations with faculty from across GW’s Columbian College of Arts and Sciences.
Basic Qualifications: Applicants must have a PhD in African American history, American Studies, or a closely related field. Applicants should have a distinguished record of scholarship reflected in peer-reviewed publications and grants/fellowships and excellence in teaching as demonstrated by student evaluations, peer reviews, or supervisor’s comments. Applicants must also have a distinguished record of scholarly publishing and teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
