Northwest University invites applications for a tenure track assistant professor position in American History. The ideal candidate will be an energetic, enthusiastic scholar/teacher who is committed to helping undergraduate students achieve their goals. The successful candidate will teach US History survey courses, as well as upper-division courses in areas of their specialty. Applicants with subfields in Latin-American or African-American history are especially encouraged to apply.
Candidates must possess a meaningful commitment to Jesus Christ, the church, and the Gospel. We are seeking someone with a winsome, encouraging and culturally-engaged faith. Proven ability to mentor African-American, Hispanic, and Native American students preferred.
Responsibilities:
- Teach four courses a semester in the Department of History and Political Science
- Advise undergraduate students
- Work with the department chair to revise and improve curriculum as needed
- Develop new courses in the candidate’s area of research and expertise
- Participate in service to the university as assigned
- Engage in scholarship related to his/her field of study
Qualifications:
- Doctoral degree in history (ABD considered)
- Undergraduate teaching and advising experience
- A commitment to teaching excellence in an undergraduate, liberal arts program.
- A demonstrated, vibrant evangelical faith compatible with the mission of Northwest University and the Assemblies of God
- Willingness to apply a faith-based worldview to course design, instruction and advising
