Position: | Assistant Professor |
The Department of History at the University of Illinois at Chicago invites applications for a tenure-track position in modern Western European history from 1789 to the present, at the assistant professor level, beginning in August 2019 subject to budgetary approval. The geographic specialization is open, but excludes the lands east of Germany. We are particularly interested in applicants working on trans-national projects in European history, especially on colonialism or imperialism in conjunction with European nation-building, economic and migration networks, the transfer of cultural or intellectual influences, or other projects linking Europe to wider global developments. The new faculty member will teach introductory and advanced undergraduate courses in European history. They will also participate in the Department’s vital graduate program focused on historical encounters within and among modern states and empires, and on the post-imperial legacy of colonial powers in Europe and beyond. An interest in working with graduate students specializing in East Central European and Russian empires and post-imperial transitions, world history, and the history of non-European former colonial world is welcome.
