Two-Year Postdoctoral Curatorial Fellowship in Women’s History
The Museum of the American Revolution, located in Philadelphia’s historic Old City neighborhood, invites applications for its inaugural two-year Postdoctoral Curatorial Fellowship. Applicants must hold a recent doctoral degree in American History with specialization in Women’s History, with an 18th and/or 19th century focus preferred. The Fellow will be an in-residence, full-time staff member for a period of two years from fall 2018 to fall 2020.
The Museum’s Postdoctoral Fellowship provides hands-on, interdisciplinary public history experience in curatorial work and exhibition development for a young scholar. The Fellow will work under the supervision of the Museum’s Chief Historian and Director of Curatorial Affairs and in close collaboration with curatorial and education staff as well as an advisory board of scholars. The Fellow’s primary responsibility will be to conduct historical and object research and to develop thematic narratives for a major special exhibition reflecting on the American Revolution and the 19th Amendment. This exhibition will open in the Museum of the American Revolution in fall 2020.
The Fellow will gain extensive experience in developing museum exhibitions, including researching and writing interpretive materials for non-scholarly audiences (exhibition labels and text panels, digital content, etc.). They will also contribute to the development of associated public programming. In addition to their primary responsibility for development of the special exhibition, approximately 25% of the Fellow’s time will be devoted to general curatorial department work including staff training, support for fundraising activities, and other duties.
This two-year Fellowship runs from October 15, 2018 and ends October 16, 2020. Compensation is $50,000 a year plus benefits. The Fellowship may not be held concurrently with any other fellowship or grant.
Review of applications will begin September 3 and continue until the position is filled.
