The History Department at the University of Alabama in Huntsville is taking applications for a two-year lecturer position with specializations in history of the US South and public history with experience teaching world history. Teaching responsibilities mainly include freshman-level world history and US surveys, but also courses in the candidate’s specializations. Experience in online teaching is desired. Candidates should complete the Ph.D. by August 1 2018, and should have a strong commitment to teaching. The teaching load is four courses per semester.
About the University: The University of Alabama in Huntsville, classified as a Very High Research Activity institution, offers academic and research programs in the Colleges of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences; Business Administration, Education, Engineering, Nursing, and Science. Huntsville maintains one of the highest per capita incomes and standards of living in the Southeast. It is a national center of aerospace and high technology research and is home to NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center. Huntsville and surrounding communities present many opportunities for healthcare research and professional practice.
About the College: The College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences at the University of Alabama in Huntsville comprises 10 departments and 80 full-time faculty. We offer a wide array of programs in the arts, humanities, and social sciences including 25 B.A. programs, five M.A. programs, and two certificate programs. We recently added a BFA with a Gaming and Animation track. The college has also led the way in creating several interdisciplinary minors, such as Women’s and Gender Studies, Global Studies, and Science, Technology, and Society. Our class sizes are relatively small and our collegial faculty are committed to our students’ successes. In 2016-2017 we awarded 135 B.A.’s, 35 M.A.’s, and 10 certificates.
About the Department: In addition to several versions of the history major, the department also supports interdisciplinary minors in Public History, Global Studies, Women’s and Gender Studies, Ancient and Medieval Studies, and Latin American Studies. In addition to Master’s degrees, the department has a new graduate certificate in Comparative Cultures and Conflicts.
