The University of Arizona’s Department of Religious Studies and Classics invites applications for a full time, benefits eligible Lecturer of Religious Studies to begin August 2018. This Lecturer position will involve teaching undergraduate general education courses for the University of Arizona main campus (both in person and online) and for the University of Arizona online campus. The position will be based at the University of Arizona main campus in Tucson. The area of specialty within Religious Studies is open, although candidates who have demonstrated teaching competency in one or more of the following areas are of particular interest: Religion and African-American Studies; Religion and Africana Studies; Asian Religions; Religion and Law; Religion and Medicine/Psychology/Health; Religion and Sports Studies; Religion and Art/Music/Media/Popular Culture (including Hip Hop studies); and Greco-Roman Religion, including early Christianity/New Testament Studies. Candidates prepared to teach Religious Studies theories and methods are especially encouraged to apply.
Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Religious Studies or a closely related field by August 2018, professional-level competence in English, an excellent record in teaching at the university level, including a demonstrated ability to teach courses in Religious Studies, and experience with online teaching.
Responsibilities will include teaching 8 courses per year, which can include summer teaching. A minimum of one course per semester will be in an online format. Some reduction of teaching load is possible with active involvement in new course development and other service work.
