The University of Chicago's Department of East Asian Languages and Civilizations invites applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher position at the rank of Instructor in Pre-1900 Japanese Studies. We seek researchers pursuing innovative work in the fields of literature, religion, performance studies, visual culture, and related fields to apply. The successful candidate, appointed at the rank of Instructor, will teach two undergraduate courses over the course of the academic year and will be expected to participate actively in the graduate workshops, symposia, and other events associated with the Japanese Studies program. A University of Chicago faculty member will serve as a mentor to the Postdoctoral Researcher. Applicants are required to have their Ph.D. in hand by the expected start date of appointment, and to have earned their Ph.D. no earlier than 2012. The initial appointment is for two years, and renewal for a third year is possible, contingent upon budgetary approval and satisfactory review of performance. Salary is competitive and includes benefits. The anticipated start date for the appointment is September 1, 2018.
