POSITION DETAILS
The Office of Academic Affairs (OAA) at Queensborough Community College, a campus of the City University of New York (CUNY), seeks an experienced academic administrator as its first Assistant Dean for Academics.

Under the direction of the Dean of Institutional Effectiveness, the Assistant Dean for Academics will provide strategic direction to several critical Academic Affairs areas, including: providing curriculum and academic leadership, transfer and articulation leadership, and representation of key Academic Affairs initiatives to internal and external constituents.
Curriculum and Academic Affairs Leadership:
-Provide leadership for, and guidance to, academic departments on the development of new courses and programs, on curricular revisions, and on early college initiatives.
-Support the Dean in identifying and prioritizing the strategic initiatives related to academic programming and to the College’s annual strategic planning and year-end reporting processes.
-Ensure curricular changes from shared governance through the completion of Chancellor’s Reports.
-Maintain and ensure working knowledge of compliance with Federal and State legislation and CUNY policies related to all academic matters.
-Represent OAA and serve as primary contact to QCC senior administration and faculty on curricular matters.
-Facilitate professional development activities on issues related to course and program development.
-Lead or support College-wide projects and grants, as requested.
-Oversee and administer academic integrity policies and practices.
Transfer and Articulation Leadership:
-Provide leadership to expand the college’s relationships with educational institutions across and beyond CUNY.
- Currently, Queensborough Community College has ten dual-joint programs with senior colleges of The City University of New York and nearly 200 articulation agreements with both CUNY and non-CUNY institutions.
-Oversee and supervise the Transfer Resource Center’s Director, Staff, and Operations.
External Academic Affairs Representation:
Representing the Office of Academic Affairs, the Assistant Dean will provide leadership and support for two of the five CUNY Strategic Framework pillars: Access and Completion and College Readiness. The successful candidate will play a leadership role in the college by liaising with University offices to advance important aspects of the Strategic Framework as they relate to promoting college access and degree completion and academic momentum support of the Connected CUNY pledge to double three-year graduation rates for associate degrees.
-Lead the CUNY Academic Momentum initiative with a focus on access and completion, working with Academy faculty coordinators on promoting Starfish Early Alert and extracurricular activities for students, and managing and administering the CUNY-led CUE/USIP program.
-Lead OAA support of Open Education Resource Initiatives, coordinating among academic departments and administrative offices, and reporting on the assessment of initiative efforts.
-In collaboration with the Dean and OAA, represent the College across the University on academic matters.
-With chairs and program directors, lead academic innovation strategy and implementation across the college.
-Assure collaborations across sectors of the college and university, as well as with community partners and constituents, to pursue the college’s educational and research objectives.
-With academic leadership and development staff, pursue external funding for academic initiatives.
-Monitor student retention data and provide data/reports to stakeholders as needed.
-Ensure all curricular matters and program information are communicated and reported accurately and in a timely manner.
QUALIFICATIONS
This position is in CUNY's Executive Compensation Plan. All executive positions require a minimum of a Bachelor's degree and eight years' related experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
-Doctorate in an academic discipline or higher education administration; higher education experience;
- Background/experience in a STEM discipline;
- Experience with curriculum development and course/program assessment;
- Experience leading successful articulation initiatives;
- Excellent supervisory, organizational and administrative skills;
- Excellent verbal/written communication and presentation skills;
- Skills in development, implementation and execution of programs;
- Ability to work with individuals from a variety of culturally diverse backgrounds.
