The School of Divinity is looking to appoint a one-year full-time early career academic, to support Dr Appleton’s Philip Leverhulme Prize research project. The appointee will primarily serve as Research Assistant to the project, overseeing the development of a digital research resource, namely a searchable online database of Jataka stories in Indian texts and art. The appointee will also be expected to deliver some of Dr Appleton’s classes in the area of Buddhist studies (Introduction to Buddhism first-year lectures; Theravada Buddhism honours course), accounting for approximately 20% of the overall post. There is also scope for the appointee to use some of their time engaging in research (including publications) relating to the resource, attending academic conferences, and undertaking relevant training. Candidates must hold a PhD in Buddhist Studies or a related field by the time they take up the post.

This post is offered on a full-time (35 hours per week), fixed term basis for 12 months.
Salary range: £32,548 - £38,833 per annum.
