Assistant Professor of Political Science (Political Theory/Public Law)
Institution Type: | College / University |
Location: | South Carolina, United States |
Position: | Assistant Professor |
The Department of Political Science at the College of Charleston invites applications for an assistant professor position in political theory and law beginning August 2018. The successful candidate will teach introductory and upper level classes in political theory and public law and contribute to the department’s Politics, Philosophy, and Law (PPLW) concentration. The PPLW concentration allows focused attention on theoretical issues related to the law, so the ability to offer classes in jurisprudence, legal theory, or constitutional law would be particularly welcome. A PhD in Political Science or a related field is required. Primary teaching and advising responsibilities will be in the undergraduate political science program, and the teaching load is six courses per academic year. The College of Charleston is a public, liberal arts and sciences institution with approximately 10,000 undergraduate students and 1,100 graduate students. The Political Science Department has 21 fulltime faculty, approximately 320 undergraduate majors (http://polisci.cofc.edu/), and a Geography Minor (http://geography-minor.cofc.edu/). The department also supports a Master of Public Administration (http://puba.cofc.edu/) and Master of Science in Environmental Studies (http://mes.cofc.edu/) program. The College is located in historic downtown Charleston in a coastal metropolitan area of 750,000. Additional information about the institution and the surrounding area is available at https://www.cofc.edu/. Applicants should apply online at https://jobs.cofc.edu/ and submit a cover letter, a curriculum vita, graduate transcripts, sample publication/example of scholarly research, a teaching portfolio (with evidence of teaching effectiveness including, but not limited to course syllabi and course evaluations), and contact information for three references. Questions about the search can be directed to the search committee chair, Dr. Claire Curtis (curtisc@cofc.edu). Review of applications will begin December 16, 2017 and continue until the position is filled. The College of Charleston is an AA/EO employer and strongly encourages women and minority candidates to apply.
