About the opportunity
Applications are invited for a three-year fixed term position at the level of Lecturer (Level B) in the Department of Philosophy.
The Department is seeking applicants with outstanding research profile in Ethics and Critical Thinking. The appointees will also be expected to participate in the curriculum transformation currently underway at the University and to be willing to teach into interdisciplinary units. In addition, the successful candidates will be expected to pursue active research programs, participate fully in the department’s research culture and undertake appropriate administrative roles and curriculum development as required.
We are seeking to appoint a Lecturer to replace a staff member who is on a fellowship. The appointee will be expected to:
- teach introductory units of study, as well as specialised higher-level courses
- supervise Honours students, and doctoral and other postgraduate research, in their fields of speciality
- publish their research in well-regarded peer-reviewed international publications
- seek research funding from internal and external sources
- contribute to academic administration
About you

- a PhD in a related area of philosophy
- experience as a skilled philosophy teacher at the tertiary level
- demonstrated research expertise in Ethics and Critical Thinking through high quality publications
- evidence of high quality teaching capacity at undergraduate or postgraduate level in both large and small units
- capacity to supervise honours, masters and PhD students
- capacity to contribute to course and program development
- capacity to teach in a range of areas including Ethics and Critical Thinking
- an active research program with significant potential for future publication
- evidence of successful teamwork and a collegial approach

The School of Philosophical and Historical Inquiry (SOPHI) is one of five schools in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, made up of the departments of Archaeology, Classics and Ancient History, Gender and Cultural Studies, History, and Philosophy.
