The Department of Religious Studies at the University of California, Riverside (UCR) invites applications for a full-time, tenured position beginning July 1, 2018, at the rank of Associate or Full Professor to fill the Shrimad Rajchandra Endowed Chair in Jain Studies. We seek a scholar with a wide range of knowledge and research interests in Jain ethics, philosophy, religion, history and culture, as well as familiarity with the languages of Jain primary sources. We are especially interested in interdisciplinary research that can critically evaluate the relevance of Jain principles in peace and conflict studies, human rights, bioethics, and/or diversity and social justice.
The successful candidate’s responsibilities will include maintaining an outstanding research program and teaching undergraduate and graduate courses including the advising of graduate students. The successful candidate will be expected to guide the research of doctoral students, to be committed to a continuing research program, to provide departmental leadership in the field, and to provide service to the university and profession. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in a related field and should demonstrate an established record of excellence in research and teaching that merits a tenured appointment as an Associate or Full Professor in the Department of Religious Studies.
The university is on the quarter system of ten weeks of instruction per quarter. A standard teaching load is four courses per academic year. Salary will be competitive and commensurate with education and experience.
